My boobs get sore and hurt during my periods. Is it normal? Can I prevent it?

Firstly, it is completely normal. There’s a term for it: cyclical mastalgia. Simply put, before and during periods the hormone level fluctuates and impacts how the breasts feel. It’s a natural process that happens to everyone. And mind you, it also happens during pregnancy.

There are no ways to prevent it. However, there are a few things that you can do. If you’re on birth control pills, then the change in hormonal composition can affect your breasts. Some pills have lesser estrogen in them and can help in reducing the pain. You can also try to put a warm compress on your breasts to relieve muscle tension.

If you’re having tenderness only on one side, and in addition to it, also have nipple discharge, a rash, or a dimpling, it is advisable to get yourself checked by your doctor.
