I have constant itching in my genital area since having sex. Is it common?

Let’s say that it is not unheard of. There can be several reasons for itching in the genital area which include dry skin or a lack of lubrication. If the itching persists, it could also be a sexually transmitted infection (STI).

If you used a condom, it could be an allergy to latex. It can also be vaginal dryness, vaginal yeast or bacterial infection. However, it could also be due to STIs like chlamydia, herpes, and gonorrhea. If the itching is accompanied by pain while urinating, pain in the rectum, unusual discharge from the penis or the vagina, and sores around the genitals, it could be some STI.

The best response in all these circumstances is to see a doctor, get tested, and know your treatment method. It can be something as simple as a vagina moisturizer to cure the dryness or require medication to treat the infection – the sooner you know it, the better.
